Laodicea was called “The Luke Warm Church” because it wasn’t hot enough to change lives nor cold enough to allow change basically, “So so”. Laodicea is comprised of two Greek words: Lao and Dicea which means “Rights of the people” or “People’s justice which is where we get the words: social justice and civil rights (Laodicea). While the Spirit said, “Because you are neither hot nor cold so I will vomit you out of my mouth” the reference is to their lifestyle. Lukewarm water is supposed to be good for keeping the body hydrated and showering with it helps to bring the body temperature down; however, having a lukewarm attitude toward our relationship with the Lord makes us useless to a purpose because we are neither hot enough to catch the fire nor cold enough to put it out. While this letter sounds harsh, it is not a death sentence it is a “chastisement” (Hebrews 12:6-11). The onus is now on the church body to choose who they will follow and how they will respond to this message. So he stands at the door and knocks waiting for “whosoever” to open their hearts and receive Him. To person or people who overcame their lackluster performance, he gave authority to command demons, lay hands on the sick and they would be healed (Mark 16:15-20). Father, you have great plans for your church and desire that all men and women come to salvation (2 Peter 3:9). You chasten us so that we will be made whole but when we respond as the people did at the Well of Quarrelling “Meri bah” nothing gets done (Hebrews 3:8-9, Exodus 17:1-7). So, in the words of David your servant, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me …” (Psalm 51:10-13). May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you today my Lord and Redeemer of my soul (Psalms 19:14). In Your Service MK
