Have you ever wondered, “Why does God hate sin”? Why doesn’t God do what the world does when we commit sin by shaking his head and make a joke out of it? The reason is that sin destroys us inwardly and then outwardly. When Solomon became king in 970 in the wake of the death of his father David, it was the result of what sin had done to an otherwise bright and powerful kingdom under David’s watch. The process began in the heart of David who was where he was not supposed to be and then didn’t act on the wisdom he had come to know by turning his head and walking away. Instead, he acted on his lust for Bathsheba and it became the gift that kept on giving. The Lord had great plans for Israel but they were undone in a matter of minutes. The succession of the monarch should have been to Amnon but sin ruined it irrevocably. Israel’s sad demise is the same sad story of millions upon millions of people.. Why does God hate sin? Because it is a blight that multiplies, and adjusts to any environment it is put into and there is no place you can run to that it will not follow.

Paul in his letter to Pastor Timothy admonished Timothy to keep careful watch over his life and ministry because of the things they were facing in the communities of Asia Minor (2 Timothy 4:1-5). I urge you with the same message my brothers sisters in Christ Jesus don’t let the enemy steal your hope, joy, family, and/or ministry.

Father,

Sin is a blight and it destroys healthy lives, takes that which does not belong to it, and leaves behind a mess for the individual to clean up. There are things we leave behind for our children like wealth, possessions, and/or skills. One thing we should never leave behind, but many do, and that is sin. Sin never gets any better it because the first time it is committed is best it will ever look. When I am tempted help me to keep my eyes on you and do what elder brother Jesus did and that is go to prayer.
