Last night I dreamt that I was taking inventory of computers at my former employer’s branch location. I started the inventory by scanning computer hardware. When I logged into the computer, my bosses were chatting late on a Saturday night. When they noticed I was online, they tried connecting to me but software would not let us; all I could see was what was going on in the chat. When I woke up, the thought crossed my mind about “Yesterday’s pains and sorrows”. Our memories are like pictures in a photo album; when we open the album, floods of memories come back to mind and play like a projection in our mind’s eye. Unfortunately, as much as we enjoy the fond memories, they always give way to the bad memories, the times when life wasn’t so good, and/or the times we were hurt by a callous comment. The Devil’s henchmen/women like to delve into these memories to keep us focused on the anger, frustration, pains and sorrows to keep us from being productive. in the day the Lord has made “Today”. Consider this, you remember an interaction that occurred 20 years ago where someone got to you with verbal jabs and you were hamstrung because you didn’t know how to respond. Then, the thought came to your mind “If I had just said, ‘___’, I would have gotten their goat very easily’”. Then you come out of your day dream and realize 1/2 hour has passed and nothing was accomplished.
The only person we have control over is ourselves, our attitudes, thoughts, behaviors, feelings,. and emotions; beyond that we have no control and that, I believe, is by design. The problem is, we could have answers for every jab sent our way and pretend we have walked in the admonition of the Lord but we would not have pleased God and that is the goal of every child of the Living God (2 Corinthians 5:6-11). When we have brought our mind, body, and soul under control, we will be ready to face the battles ahead of us. I encourage you today to read and consider the words of the Apostle Paul to the struggling church at Philippi (Philippians 3;12-15).
Father
Above all things you are Holy and you are just. You do not ask of us to move mountains nor control the world, you ask us to control our selves in all the areas of our life; this in itself is a tall order but it is doable. Lord I give you my past, present, and future and ask that you would please help me in my daily life to do that which pleases you. I pray for my families today that you will watch over the members wherever they may go and whatever they may do. I ask this in Jesus’s name.
