Life of the Patriarchs – Part V – Abram

Good Morning,

So Abram and Lot and their families left Egypt to return to Israel’s inheritance in Canaan. Because sheer number of cattle and sheep in each of the two families, the decision was made to split the two families to avoid fights that were already starting to break out with Abram offering Lot the first choice.  Lot chose the Jordan Valley because it was fertile and well-watered just like the Garden of Eden (). So why did Abram give Lot the first choice? After all, the Lord did grant Abram the entire land of Canaan certainly, he would have been within his rights but at what cost? Remember this, Abram was the Lord’s servant so anything he did would reflect on the Lord just like our walk with the Lord (Romans 12:1-2, Hebrews 13:20-22). A point to ponder and study for tomorrow: What is the difference between, ‘To your descendants, I will give this land (Genesis 12:7)’ and ‘Rise and conquer for I have given you the land  (Joshua 1:3-6)!’?

My encouragement for you today is that you will carefully consider the choices you are making in your ministry and life and do that which glorifies God (1 Corinthians 10:31-33). With the Lord, timing is everything (Ecclesiastes 8:7-8).

Father,

All things including mankind are in your hands. You are the one who sets the timing in place and you know how everything will fit into place. You do not tell us when events are going to occur or how your plans will fit together, you tell us “Be prepared for whatever hour I call” (Matthew 24:44). May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you my Lord in all that I do. I pray for those in need of a special touch from you, those who are enduring tremendous struggles, and for those on my prayer list.

I.H.S. MK
