Life of the Patriarchs – Part IX

Main Verse: Genesis 24

Good morning,

Isaac was at the age where he could marry and because Abraham knew he would pass away soon, his beloved Sarah had already passed, and he didn’t want Isaac to be alone. Abraham gave his servant a specific task to get his son a wife (Ecclesiastes 9:4-12). Isaac could have told his dad to pack sand and picked a wife for himself from where he lived sort of like Esau and Samson; however, in doing so, it would have flown in the face of his trust and respect for his father and the God of his father based on the events of his childhood (Genesis 22:6-13).  Upon reaching his destination, the servant saw several women, all of whom would make an ideal mate. To get the Lord’s answer, though, he prayed first in thanksgiving for the travel and then setting the parameters for confirmation. When Rebecca arrived moments later, every parameter set by the servant happened without one change or alteration.

My encouragement for you today is that if you are about to make life decisions you will exercise your right as a Child of the Kingdom by seeking the Lord’s face, If you want a word of confirmation or events to confirm the Lord’s choice, make it as specific as you would like, don’t omit any parameters, then commit it to God, and praise Him for the results. “The most troubling aspect for humanity is not the troubles they face; it is that they fail to ask for what they need and want and most definitely will not wait patiently for it because we are in a world of ‘instant gratification’” (Mike Krier).

 Father,

Making decisions is not always an easy task for mankind especially when it comes to “Life-altering” events like marriage, acting on a call on our lives, and changing directions when one path ends. Our consolation is that You care for us, want the best for your children, and desire that we enjoy life while we have it in our possession (Ecclesiastes 9:7-9). Your desire for our lives is that we would always be the head, not the tail, the top, not the bottom but it all comes down to our choices (Deuteronomy 28:13).  I pray for those today who themselves are in the valley of decisions and need to hear from you. I also pray for those who need a special touch from you. I pray especially for the USA as she is languishing under bitter difficulties.

I.H.S. MK
