Main Verse: Genesis 27-28:5)
Good morning,
The Father of Many Nations, Abraham, sired one child through Sarah, one through Hagar, and six through his concubine Keturah. Before his death, Abraham gave gifts to the seven sons through his concubines and sent them away to the East or the “Eastern people”. The reason for doing this was to separate Isaac, the “child of the promise”, from the other families. In the NT and the OT, when God calls us to live for him, He tells us, “Come out from among ___ and be be separate” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18, Revelations 18:4, Jeremiah 51:6-18). Jacob, unfortunately, is being sent back to his mother’s family in Padan Aram something his grandfather would have strongly rejected no matter what the circumstances were (Genesis 24:1-9).
When the Lord has called us out of a sinful place, as he did for Abraham, and why Abraham wouldn’t let his servant take Isaac to Padan Aram, we owe it to ourselves and our family to remain out of that place. Unfortunately, the Devil knows all of our “comfort zones” and knows equally well what it will take for us to run home as Elijah did and as Rebecca would do to her son Jacob. My encouragement for you today is that when you face a temptation you will consider all that the Lord has brought you through and then resolve to remain faithful no matter what the circumstances you are facing.
Father,
Life in this world is filled with peril (2 Timothy 3:1-13). In all things, you call us to remain faithful despite the circumstances; when we remain faithful, you will help us to navigate the turbulent waters to reach the safety of the shore (Psalm 91:14-16). I recommit my life to you Lord and place my days in your hands. May your mercy always follow my life and that I will be empowered to share your Word to a lost and dying world. I pray for those who are going through troubles that are well over their heads and ask that you help them out. I pray for those on my list who are dealing with medical and emotional issues and need a fresh touch from you.
