Main Verses: Genesis 32 – 33:17
Good morning,
For over 20 years Jacob had been estranged from his family and most importantly Esau. When he left for Padan Aram, Esau threatened to exterminate the little runt from the earth. To get even with his parents, Esau married a few women from among the Canaanites which would serve to be a never-ending source of headaches for Isaac and Rebekah. The night Jacob spent in Mahanaim was transformative for Jacob because he was no longer the “Run-away Scamp” he was “Israel” or, “God Perseveres”. In the morning Jacob set out resolutely to face Esau knowing that he could be killed. Instead, he faced a much gentler Esau and the two hugged. God had ordained this time for the two to formally bury the hatchet, forgive, and let go but, that’s not what happened based on the events that would unfold. Instead, Jacob offered Esau something Esau never asked for instead of something he rightly deserved – the truth and a repentant heart (Psalms 51:16-17).
My brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, the Lord knows all about us including the sore spots in our lives, and desires for us to be healed (Psalm 139:1-6). In His providence, He sets a time for us to face our worst disasters. I encourage you today to use whatever time the Lord has set to redeem the time (Ephesians 5:16).
Father,
You all know every pathway we have walked, the pain(s) we might have caused, the things inflicted on us, and those we have inflicted on others. It was no surprise to you that Moses was reluctant to go back to Egypt and “Why” (Exodus 3:10-21). When we have done wrong, even for the right reasons, we have to confess it and make it right, but we don’t always do that. When we have hurt other people, Your Word admonishes us to make it right with them (James 5:13-16). Please help me every day to resolve problems while it is still light so that the thorns will not become bigger than I can handle.
Amen!
