Life of the Patriarchs Part XX Ask

Main Verse: Exodus 15:22 – 16:21

Good morning!

The route that Moses and the Israelites followed after leaving Egypt was through the Sinai desert. Anybody who knows anything about desert terrains knows that food and water are scarce commodities, and no matter how much you bring, the supplies will eventually run out. So when the people became thirsty and hungry, why didn’t the Lord snap His fingers and provide it for them? After all, it is recorded that the Lord knows what we need before we ask and He is the same as He has always been (Matthew 6:8, Malachai 3:6). The reason, I suspect anyway, is that by “Giving every time we think about a need” sets a false view of God as a “Genie” that snaps his fingers to fulfill the master’s every whim. Asking for our needs, unlike demanding and/or complaining, grows our faith. By asking for our needs, we acknowledge that the source has the power and authority to provide them (Psalms 24:1).

Today we can buy anything our heart desires providing we have the funds or available credit. In ways, we as a society have become like the church at Laodicea “rich and require nothing” (Revelations 3:17).  The problem with this lifestyle is that we end up getting what we do not want and it will always be less than God’s best and will do nothing to develop your faith. My encouragement for you today is that you ask for your needs whatever they may be. Who knows, we may be the answer people are looking for because that’s where God’s miracles mostly come from.

Father,

Asking for our needs isn’t a sign of weakness it’s a sign of faith believing our needs will be met. All the earth belongs to you including our wealth. We came into this world naked and had no pockets to fill. We need you Lord because wealth will do nothing in the long run whereas faith will move mountains. Please help me every day of my life to keep my eyes on you in all that I do. I know as a leader I have failed you along the way because I didn’t remember that all good things come from you (James 1:17). I pray for those who are struggling with severe medical conditions.

In Jesus’ Name

Amen
