Life of the Patriarchs Part XXVII The Guarded the Day

Main Verse: Numbers 15:37-41

Good morning!

In the Old Testament, there is a lot of talk about this “Sabbath” day. The people were told to guard it carefully. Why was this day so important after all, isn’t it just another day?  The reason this day is so important is that it is sanctified for God’s purposes just like the articles in the temple were also stuff made by human hands. When we guard this time by not allowing interruptions to encroach the borders (Proverbs 22:28-29). If we allow even a little bit of the time to be taken for worldly things, eventually the day will hold no meaning.

The Lord wants to minister to us but too often we are just “too busy” so we tell ourselves, “Tomorrow I’ll __” and then before we know it 50 years have passed by. When you consider the pathway the world has followed and the fruit that came from it, we can understand the teacher’s words, “Meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). My encouragement for you today is that you will set aside that “one day” and keep it Holy to the Lord.

Father,

Time is a precious commodity in this “Seven days work a day” world we are in. The world will take as much as we give and a little bit more until we are worn to a frazzle. So please help me to push back the force of the world so that a day is always set aside for you. When I give you my time, you take it and make it to be more than I can imagine (1 Corinthians 2:9-12). I commit this day into your hands Father, may it be used for your glory.

In Jesus’ name

Amen
