Life in the Land Part 5 – Conquest of Jericho

Main Verse: Joshua 5:13 – 6:27

Good morning!

The night before the conquest, the Captain of the Lord’s army met with Joshua to discuss the battle plan. Because the Lord God is Holy – sacred or, set apart or different from all others, the place where we meet  Him is “Holy Ground” or the place where we take care of business; in Joshua’s case the “business matter” was to establish the battle plan and Joshua’s responsibility.  For six days the people would march around the city with the Ark of the Covenant in the lead followed by the men blowing the shofar horn, and the people would follow silently behind them. On the seventh day, they would march around the city seven times and on the seventh round, the people were told to give a mighty shout! When they shouted, the walls fell in and the people ran through the city putting its occupants to death except Rahab and her family who were taken outside of the camp to wait for the nation. Because this battle was won by the Lord, everything in the city was to be considered a burnt offering and no one was to take anything.

In our walk with the Lord, there will be battles that are bigger than us and these will be the ones the Lord fights for us. While the Lord will win the victory, we must stand up to the impossible task with courage, conviction, and unshakeable faith (Matthew 17:19-21). My encouragement for you today is whatever battle you are fighting, What we are tasked with may sound funny but if we follow it to the letter, nothing will be impossible.

Father,

Life is tough and there will always be battles that will be bigger than us but in you, everything is “Yes and Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:19-22). Obedience to the Lord is not a mere suggestion it is mandatory (Deuteronomy 28:1-2). Mankind deludes himself/herself when they believe they know better than You. When we delude ourselves into believing our Press, you know how to humble us and the right lever to pull to bring us down a notch (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Lord please watch over my families today and keep them in your eternal arms. I pray for those who need a special touch from you for a battle that they are fighting.

In Jesus’ Name
