Life of the Kings Part 4 – Facing Our Fears

Main Verse: 1 Samuel  10

Good morning!

Saul came to Samuel to seek his help in finding the runaway, only to find that God had chosen him to ride on one (Zechariah 9:9). The problem was Saul didn’t want the position and for that reason, he hid among the baggage hoping no one would find him. Israel never had a king before so they did not know how to set up an earthly kingdom; Saul was an unknown one of many hundreds of thousands of denizens in Israel. I am not sure why he hid maybe because the “Unknown” frightened him. In the inauguration, the people cheered their king not knowing what lay ahead for them.

When the Lord calls us to do anything, He has faith in us to do the right thing. When God calls to do anything, it never comes as a completed package that we must put together brick by brick. Saul was not a king and there was nothing about him that bespoke of “Kingly material” just like Jesus (Isaiah 53:2). No one could make Saul into Kingly material he had to do that himself using the gifts God had given him. In the same way, when God calls us He gives us the tools and raw materials just like he did with Noah and Moses. Fear will always try to stand in our way because if are freed from its grasp, there is nothing that will ever stand in our way. Being called by God is not as important as what we do with it. Saul had a lot to do and most of it would not be easy because, if it were easy every fool and their brother would do it with great ease. My encouragement for you today is that you will not allow fear to stop you in your tracks. God has called each of us to do something special with the gifts and tools He has given us. There is something that will interfere and that is “Sin” (Romans 6:12-23).

Father,

You are an awesome God and there is no one like You. You have given us gifts and talents and when we couple them with faith in You there is nothing that can stop us except for one thing, “Sin”. Please help us to deal with our temptations and not allow them to interfere with Your calling and the joy that is ours in Christ Jesus.

In Jesus’ Name
