Moses at the Lectern

Main verse: Deuteronomy 3:21-4:24

Good morning!

The book of Deuteronomy, as I will mention multiple times in this series, is the story of Israel’s journey, Moses is the Narrator, and the Israelites were the audience; For Joshua, Eleazar, and Caleb this is a refresher but to remaining audience, this was new and valuable information. The audience, specifically the Levites and the Elders, would be responsible for everything Moses talked about just as it is when a teacher prepares the class for a test. So, when Moses talked everyone was silent. After Moses had concluded his lecture, Moses commissioned Joshua at the Lord’s direction to succeed him to lead Israel and Moses gave Book of the Law or the “Torah” to Joshua and to be put into the Ark of the Covenant (Deuteronomy 31:7-9).

I admire Moses because Moses made it the hallmark of his tenure to be a transparent leader; everything Moses said and did was in the full view of the Israelites. The book of the law given to Joshua was an organized and detailed account of the Lord’s commands given to Moses; it contained the instructions for building and care of the Wilderness Temple, Levite assignments, and the responsibilities of the Priests. The book of the law combined with Moses’ instructions would be the keys to the nation’s success or failure in the new land (Deuteronomy 5:33). My encouragement for you today is, read the Lord’s commands (Exodus 20:1-10).

I.H.S.
