Covenant Relationship

Main Verse: Deuteronomy 8:6-18

Good morning!

A covenant is a legal agreement between two or more parties when it is evoked, both sides have assigned responsibilities. When Israel marched out of Egypt to go to the “Land flowing with Milk and Honey,” it was an answer to prayer and the Lord honoring His promise to Abraham (Exodus 2:7-10, Genesis 15:12-14). Once the nation was safely out of the reach of the Egyptians, the Lord revealed the requirements of the covenant. Initially, every man, woman, and child would be priests of the covenant until sin upended it (Exodus 20:2-18, Exodus 32:1-6). After the events with the golden calf, all covenant agreements with the Lord were signed into law by the elders, priests, and later the kings of Israel; the problem with this model is, it is enforced until someone else rises to power who breaks the covenant by being unfaithful to the Lord (Case of Solomon 1 King 11:1-13 and Manasseh 2 King 24:1-4).

The New Covenant was enacted the day Jesus Christ died on the Cross of Calvary and is extended to, “Whosoever” (Luke 22:14-20, Romans 10:1-13). When we evoke the name of Christ and accept forgiveness for our sins, we commit ourselves to honoring the Lord’s commands which also includes forgiving and serving others (Matthew 20:20-28). During the month of May, I will be writing more in-depth about the Lord’s covenant I encourage you today to consider the Lord’s covenant and the part you play in it. If you have never been in a covenant relationship with the Lord or have been a Christian for many years but always struggled Sunday-to Sunday, I encourage you to stay tuned my hope is, these writings will ignite your relationship with the Lord.
