Main Verse: Isaiah 28
Good morning
King Ahaz, having heard about Assyria and Samariah combining forces against Jerusalem, hired the formidable King Tiglath Pelezar of Asyria to come to Jerusalem’s aid in doing so, Ahaz broke covenant with the Lord; earlier the Lord, speaking through Isaiah, warned Ahaz not to enlist Asyria’s aid and if Ahaz would take one bold stance of faith, the combined forces of Assyria and Samaria would fall apart (Isaiah 7:1-10). Ahaz and Jerusalem’s leadership thought they had a golden ticket making the Lord of their ancestry obsolete. King Ahaz went as far as to construct a Temple like the one he saw in Asyria because Ahaz thought if he bowed down to the altar, he too would become powerful (2 Kings 16:10-16). Unfortunately, Ahaz’s decision enslaved Jerusalem for over one hundred years until the time of Josiah (2 Kings 23:29-30).
If you have ever been in a “Fun House” and seen how the mirrors skewed your image, you would notice how one mirror makes you look short and another tall, another mirror will make you look fat and another thin; of course, the image is distorted by the design of the mirror; When you exit the fun house, you will not have gained nor lost an ounce and be no taller or shorter no matter how long you stood in front of the mirror nor how much you wanted to believe the mirror. In the same way the enemy of our soul, the Devil, plays tricks with our mind by convincing us to believe in a lie; the reason the Devil employs this tactic is because he knows that with out a doubt, the moment we hold onto faith in Jesus Christ, Satan will lose control over us and will lose a foot-hold in the family, church, and/or community (Revelations 3:1, Hebrews 2:14-18). My encouragement for you today is, if you are caught in an endless cycle of fear, anger, and depression, it is time to stop and bring them before the Lord (James 5:13-14).
