Main Verse: Psalms 119:17-32
Good morning
King David had a couple of choices to make, be like his former master Saul or be what the Lord intended him to be, be like the world leaders or honor the Lord who anointed him King over Israel (Exodus 20:1). Now these may seem like relatively easy choices, but they are not! It is easy to be an arm-chair Bible Theologian and judge David based on events that have already occurred because we know the outcome and it will never change. However, given similar circumstances and events that have not yet played out and we would be just as lost as David unless we shared the same love for the Lord and stand the little ground we possessed. Remember, in those times stronger kingdoms attacked weaker kingdoms to gain power and resources. David could have been like the blood-thirsty kings, but he chose instead to honor the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in whose hands his kingdom would either be crushed or kept safe (2 Samuel 24:15-17).
It is easy to promise to obey the Lord when the pressure is off just as it is easy to promise to give everything we have when we have nothing to give but when the pressure is on and/or our wealth increases many, if not all of us will falter (Proverbs 24:10). Over forty years ago I wrote a cute little editorial for the Navy Base paper, and it begged the same question, “Where do I go from here? I will tell you, I did nothing to make my circumstances better and paid a tremendous price. After our appointment with the cross we had a choice, move on or go back to the pit we had just crawled out of because staying at the cross was not an option (Psalms 91:14-16). It is easy to play the race or victim card but once you do, you will be doing it for the rest of your life and have the same results. The Lord has so many dreams and aspirations for you but if you are unwilling to do the little things, what good is it (Hebrews 12:1-4)? God’s word admonishes us to be overcomers not because he wants perfect people, He wants to grow and strong in the Lord so our trek from the worthless pit worthwhile (Ephesians 6:10-20). I highly encourage you to carefully consider the choices you will make today because your life and those you touch are hanging in the balance (Acts 5:38-39).
