Main Verse: Psalms 119:137-144

Good morning

            My favorite ism is, “You live and die by your choices” (Mike Krier). Having witnessed Saul’s downfall, David chose to honor the Lord because the Lord never failed him (1 Samuel 17:34-37). Saul’s kingdom, unlike David’s, was set up for failure because the people wanted a king like all the nations that surrounded them and, unintentionally committed mutiny (1Samuel 8:4-9). God’s commandments have always been straight forward and left no “gray areas” nor room for improvement (Malachi 3:6, Proverbs 3:1-5).  The Mosaic law, unlike God’s laws, evolved with changes in societal pressures, norms and values; consider the case of “Divorce” (Matthew 19:1-15). David wanted God’s blessing over his life and that of his future kingdom, so he adhered to the Lord’s commandments and precepts all the time.

            In the United States, there are over tens of thousands of pages to say nothing of the US Code which has about 48,000 individual sections which have changed with societal pressures and norms. Unfortunately, no matter how many laws are written or updated, the laws will never bring peace in our homes, our communities, or the world at large because of the word, “exemption.” If we desire God’s blessing over our lives, our employment, and our families, we are obligated to honor the Lord’s commands (Exodus 20:4-17) despite how the world operates. I encourage you today to consider the pathways you are following to see if those pathways are bringing you closer to the Lord or further apart (Joshua 24:14-24). The Lord wants to pour out His blessings, but sin closes the doors and windows of our soul (Galatians 5:16-24).
